The story of Endimion is greek mythology upon which Sailor Moon is based in combination with the Japanese myth of princess Kaguya I think.

Yes! You're 100% right! Endymion's Lover is Selene, the Moon, in Greek Mythology... so it does make sense. I don't know much about the Kaguya part though, maybe... It seemed like they referred to Pop Culture Sailor Moon rather than the original myth is what I thought... hat tentacle cyclops lady though! Lol!

However, more interestingly, your Hikoboshi and Orihime led me to read about Zhinu and Niulang which led me to discover the summer triangle of the 3 stars Deneb, Altair and Vega... Then I looked up Izanagi and Izanami and ended up reading about Amateratsu and Tsukiyomi... Lol! You gave me a starting point to get lost in mythology... hahaha! No, It's 'just' a reference to the greek Endymion, because in the myth he is in a perpetual slumber because Selene the moon titanide ( yeah, Selene isn't a goddess, that's why the moon goddess is Artemis) didn't wanna see him die one day. So he's perpetually alive but asleep. Sailor Moon has nothing to do in here, even more if you know Endymion/Mamoru/Tuxedo Kamen has brown hair, the one with blond hair is Helios ( Sun Titan in greek mythology, but Great Priest of the kingdom of Earth in Sailor Moon universe) the real appearence of Pegase in arc 3 and 4 ( and ChibiUsa future Lover when she'll be sailor moon in XXXth century, with Pallas, Juno, Ceres and Vesta as her protectors) ( sorry, I went too far from the subject x) ). So, even the fact he is " pertually asleep" isn't really a fact in Sailor Moon because they all died and reincarnate until they could regain their Silver millenium's memories, so the only link with sailor Moon is the name Endymion.
